Nichole Kimbrel

I feel so blessed to have First Baptist Church of Sunnyside in my life. My journey with this church began almost 20 years ago, at a time when I was feeling really lost—even though I didn’t realize it at the time. I thought I had it all figured out! But God brought some amazing people into my life who planted the seed of faith in my heart. I was invited to a young adult Bible study, which is how I met Pastor Joel and others from the church. I would come to church a couple times a year, but I had such a wall up. I was stubborn, but God never gave up on me!

Slowly, I started praying more and turning to God. Years later, when my husband and I were looking for a church home, Sunnyside was the first place that came to mind. Once we started attending regularly, our relationship with God began to grow in such a beautiful way. We absolutely love our church family, and it’s such a blessing to see our kids growing in their faith, too. Through this church, we’ve made lifelong friendships that now feel like family.
I remember being 25 years old, scared to let go of my old life and afraid of being alone. A friend at church once told me, “You’re never alone when you have God in your life.” Taking that step of faith, even though it was scary, led to so many blessings. As I began to change my life, some old friends stopped calling, but God always brought new ones into my life. Now, I feel surrounded by love and support.

Knowing God has given me purpose, strength in tough times, and hope for the future. He’s also helped me appreciate the small moments in life. I thank God every day for the people who planted and watered that seed of faith in me. I can’t imagine my life without Him.
